$100K of Pokémon cards gone in a minute, trading store says

A Pokémon pillage: A trading card shop in Carroll County says they’re out $100,000 after a Christmas Eve break-in targeting their Pokémon collection.

Channel 2s Eryn Rogers was in Carrollton, where she spoke with the shop owner about what happened.

See this story on WSB Tonight at 11 p.m.

The owner said the display case was filled with their highest end cards like this Chase Card, and the cheapest thing in here was $600.

“He was in here roughly about 60, 63, seconds, and took $100,000 worth of stuff,” co-owner Tommy Brown said.

Surveillance video from Tag Collects in Carrollton shows those brief moments.

“He ran in with a hammer and went right to where we call high-end corner. A couple of the cards he got was the Pokémon. Collectors will know what I mean when I say Moon Brion. We had a couple of those. Those were about $4 to $5,000,” he said.

It was inventory bought with personal money.

“It took about three years worth of collecting,” Brown said.

Carrollton Police say it happened Wednesday around 5 a.m.

“We wanted to be open Christmas Eve, because that last minute, my kid needs this. My kid wants that. You know, I couldn’t do it,” Brown said.

Instead of asking “What are you trying to catch today?” Brown said spent the day picking up this glass and trying to figure out the depth of the damage.

“Some of it we can’t replace because it’s no longer on the market to buy,” he said.

Pokémon card thefts are becoming more common.

“They’re not serialized, so there’s no way to track them,” Brown said.

As for Brown and his other business owners, they say this won’t deter them and they’re hoping to be back open next week.

“We’re going to be more secure. We just, we want to be here for their community,” Brown said.

Police are still looking for the thief. The owners think the person had been in the store before.

They have also set up an online fundraiser.

  • Ilhan Omar’s Husband Reportedly Purges Names from Firm’s Website Amid Minnesota’s Massive Welfare Fraud Investigation

Ilhan Omar’s Husband Reportedly Purges Names from Firm’s Website Amid Minnesota’s Massive Welfare Fraud Investigation

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is once again under fire — this time because her husband Tim Mynett’s $25 million venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital, reportedly purged key officer details amid growing questions about the couple’s wealth and Minnesota’s ongoing welfare fraud investigations.

According to her latest financial disclosure in May, the couple’s net worth surged 3500% in just one year; their net worth is now anywhere from $6 million to $30 million. The venture capital firm alone, per the filing, is worth between $5 million-$25 million.

The New York Post was the first outlet to report Mynett’s firm scrubbed names on Saturday.

“There’s a lot of strange things going on,” Paul Kamenar, counsel to the National Legal and Policy Center, told the Post. “She was basically broke when she came into office and now she’s worth perhaps up to $30 million … she needs to come clean on these assets.”

Rose Lake Capital allegedly had less than $1,000 in assets in 2023, according to the financial disclosure for that year — leading many to question the firm’s skyrocketing fiscal growth.

Between September and October, nine officer and advisor details were removed from the site, including former Obama officials, according to the NYP.  These names include former Obama Ambassador to Bahrain Adam Ereli; former Obama Ambassador to China Max Baucus; DNC Finance Chair associate Alex Hoffman; former DNC treasurer William Derrough and former ex-CEO of Amalgamated Bank Keith Mestrich, per the New York Post‘s findings.

This move comes amid growing scrutiny of Omar.

Ninety people have been accused, and in many cases convicted, of defrauding the state of hundreds of millions of dollars — three of whom have alleged ties to Omar, though she has not been charged herself.

Some of the scrutiny toward Omar comes from her support of reforms that have since been exploited in this fraud scheme, which includes the MEALS Act — changes to the federal reimbursement rules during the COVID-19 pandemic, waiving oversight requirements to increase timely access to meals for children.

When asked by Fox News Digital if she regretted pushing for the bill and thinks it led to fraud, she offered a brief response: “Absolutely not. It did help feed kids.”

Father Finds 15-Year-Old Daughter, Who Was Kidnapped at Knifepoint on Christmas, by Tracking Her Phone’s Location

    NEED TO KNOW

    • A father in Texas tracked down his kidnapped 15-year-old daughter by using her phone’s location via parental controls, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office

    • Police said “the suspect had threatened the victim with a knife and abducted her from the street”

    • Giovanni Rosales Espinoza, 23, was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and indecency with a child

A kidnapped teen was saved thanks to her father’s quick thinking.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) shared on Facebook that deputies responded to a report of a “kidnapping of a 15-year-old female” in Porter, Texas, at around 4:50 p.m. on Dec. 25.

Investigators learned that the teenager “had taken her dog out for a walk and when she did not return at her usual time,” her parents grew concerned. Her father then used parental controls in order to locate his daughter’s phone, which had pinged in a “partially wooded area in Harris County nearly 2 miles away.”

The father was able to locate his daughter through the phone and found her and the dog inside of a “maroon-colored pickup truck” with a “partially nude 23-year-old male,” per MCSO. He then helped his daughter escape from the truck and contacted law enforcement.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect had threatened the victim with a knife and abducted her from the street,” the MCSO said.

People who witnessed the incident gave a detailed description of the truck, which helped deputies locate and identify the suspect in the incident. MCSO identified the suspect as 23-year-old Giovanni Rosales Espinoza of Porter.

Detectives with the MCSO major crimes unit responded to the scene.

Espinosa was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and indecency with a child, the MCSO noted. As of Dec. 26, he remained in custody at the Montgomery County Jail with no bond.

“Christmas is a day meant for joy, but this man chose to shatter that joy by targeting a child,” said Sheriff Wesley Doolittle in a statement. “I am incredibly proud of our deputies and detectives who worked tirelessly to ensure this dangerous predator was swiftly apprehended and is now off our streets.”

“Rest assured that your Sheriff’s Office remains vigilant every hour of every day to keep your families safe,” he added.

The family of the kidnapped teen, who requested to remain anonymous, told KHOU11 that they were thankful that the teen was safe and back at home recovering. They also noted that none of the family members knew the suspect.
