A Michigan mom, who allowed the family of one of her daughter’s friends to stay in a school bus parked on her property, can no longer access her home.
Kandie Sherman of Vassar, Michigan, told CBS affiliate WNEM that she allowed the family to live in the parked vehicle by her home in October for six weeks.
However, the individuals have allegedly still not left and have even taken out a personal protection order against the mom when she tried to evict them, meaning Sherman must keep away from the bus and, in turn, her home, the outlet reported.

“I’m feeling frustrated, helpless, and angry,” Sherman told WNEM. “I was generous enough to allow a family to park their bus on my property because they said they were self-sustainable. They were supposed to leave within six weeks, they refuse to leave.”

After Sherman served the family with an eviction notice, they got a Personal Protection Order (PPO), obtained and reviewed by PEOPLE, and claimed that the homeowner had been stalking them.
Sherman told WNEM that she now has to sleep in her car until the legal process has been completed.
WNEM reports that one of the bus’ residents says that Sherman had permitted their stay in writing.
Sherman’s neighbors have also complained to the City of Vassar about the bus, according to the outlet.

Police chief and interim city manager, Ben Guile told the Bay City, Michigan, station that the occupants of the bus were violating two city orders by parking a commercial vehicle in a residential area, as well as living in a commercial vehicle.
“They’ve apparently had some mechanical issues, and they’re not able to move currently,” Guile told the outlet. “So, we’re talking with them to get a timeline to get the bus removed.”
Preliminary information is that they’ve established some sort of residency there by being there for a certain amount of time, receiving their mail there, things along that nature,” the chief continued. “And when somebody does that, they can gain residency rights. And that makes it more difficult to remove someone. It’s no longer ‘get off my property,’ it’s an eviction process.”
Guile added that both sides should “be adults” and “come up with a plan to satisfy everybody.”
“It might not be on the timeline that you want, but if we can give the folks in the bus the amount of time that they need to make the repair to move, we can satisfy the city’s need for the bus to be removed, it would satisfy the property owners need to not have the bus on their property anymore,” Guile explained.
Sherman, in turn, told WNEM that it “would feel so wonderful” for the bus to be removed.
